New Hearing Technology in 2021

New Hearing Technology in 2021

Did you know today’s hearing devices not only help you to hear better, but they also have some pretty cool technology to make your day a little bit easier.

For example, most hearing aids can connect directly to your smartphone. This allows you to stream audio from your phone directly into your ears.  You can be working in the garden and listen to an audiobook or go for a walk and enjoy a hands-free conversation through your hearing aids. There is even a feature where you can tap on your ear to answer or hang up a phone call.  Most hearing aids can also connect to your computer or laptop so you can stream video calls directly to your ears without having to wear a visible headset.  Each manufacturer has a free app that can be downloaded so you can use your phone as a remote control.  It not only allows you to change the volume, but you can also control where the microphones are focusing, reduce the background noise around you and adjust which frequencies get amplified or reduced.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the newest and most exciting technology to be introduced to hearing aids. Some capabilities include listening to samples of various hearing settings and the ability to select the one that sounds best to you. This way adjustments are made in real time to quickly enhance your sound environment.  In addition, the ear is an optimal location to measure our physical activity and monitor our body’s signals.  When AI is incorporated with motion sensors in the hearing aid it can measure your heart rate and the amount of time you have spent actively listening. There is also a fall detector that will send an alert to a predetermined person if you have fallen and need assistance.

Since the pandemic there has been an increased demand for remote programming.  You can have your audiologist adjust your hearing aids while you stay safely at home.  During your virtual appointment you can ask Dr. Olson questions and explain your difficult listening situations.

The most important function of any hearing aid is to help you hear better and more clearly. Today’s technology along with artificial intelligence allow you to hear better, track certain health parameters and enjoy hands-free listening.
